< Nuradan CYOA 7 - Skirmish in Sund, part 4 | Nuradan CYOA 9 - TBD >

This is part of a weekly series of choice prompts that all my Patreon supporters get to vote on. See all the poll posts on Patreon here.

The adventure so far: You are River, a Changeling Stray that got lost, beaten, and mugged as you were traveling in the North of Nuradan. You ended up in the outskirts of the remote village of Sund, and are in desperate need for shelter and supplies. You wait for the night and try to steal something, when the same brigands attack the village! You want to lend a hand to the townsfolk, and sneak up to two archers shooting from the treeline. After taking them out, you use their bow and arrows to fire on the remaining bandits in the village below…

Your first arrow hits a bandit in their shoulder, you hear a scream and a loud curse as their body disappears under three men from the village. The other bandit, apparently confused, is backing away from the townsfolk.

You quickly reload and shoot another arrow, but you miss. It’s more difficult now, some villagers are in your line or fire. You still load another arrow, but the other bandit has run away from the town square.

Your eyes dart from each side of the town square, trying to make out the shape of the remaining bandit. Shadows cast from the townsfolk torches move quickly, and all the alleyways around the square are left in the dark every few seconds. You think you have it, and shoot. You hear nothing back. Must have missed.

As you load your bow again, you hear something snap. A twig, some footsteps behind you. As you turn, you barely have the time to make out a dark figure running towards you, fast.

What do you do?

Roll to the side. Your instincts are screaming for you to just drop everything and try to dodge the incoming shape.

Try to fire your bow in their direction. You already lost balance, and it’s all a blur. You might just miss and find yourself at a disadvantageous. But if you hit…
