The adventure so far: You are River, a Changeling Stray that got lost, beaten, and mugged as you were traveling in the North of Nuradan. You ended up in the outskirts of the remote village of Sund, and are in desperate need for shelter and supplies. You wait for the night and try to steal something, when the same brigands attack the village! After taking out two archers, you use their bow to help the townsfolk below, but you are being ambushed…again.
You roll to the side, as quick as you can, but it’s not enough. The weight of the attacker grabbing onto your arm makes your shoulder snap. It will hurt later.
With the bow still in your hand, you try to take a swing at the bandit’s head as you both struggle into the ground. You don’t miss, but you are not strong enough and the bandit is still trying to get a hold of you. He loses just enough grip to allow you to retreat and stand back up.
As you walk back a little, you try to grab the hatchet from your back, but your arm isn’t bending in the right way. You feel something pressing on your lower lag, and then you are tripping. The bandit you tied up has crawled behind you!
The other one is charging at you again, a knife in his hand. Your reflexes kick in, and you roll to the side again. This time you are fast enough, and the other bandit loses momentum and balance. Your right hand is grabbing a rock, and you quickly smash it into the side of his head. The bandit drops to the ground, a portion of his body weighing on your right leg.
You free yourself and get back up. You see the other bandit still crawling into the bushes, and promptly reach him to also render him unconscious. Then you see your shadow, your surroundings brightening up.
You turn, and you see three men - not warriors - staring at you. They wear simple clothes, one of them is holding a torch. Another one is menacingly pointing a pitchfork at you.
What do you do?
Explain yourself in Common. They are probably the townsfolk from below, and they just saw you help them. You might be fine.
Make a run for it. You didn’t change, and are still in your base Changeling appearance - something the townsfolk might really not like. Can’t risk it.
