The adventure so far: You are River, a Changeling Stray that got lost, beaten, and mugged as you were traveling in the North of Nuradan. You ended up in the outskirts of the remote village of Sund, and are in desperate need for shelter and supplies. You wait for the night and try to steal something, when the same brigands attack the village! You help the townsfolk repel the intruders, and now you might have a moment to rest safely. Although part of a larger regional conflict, you decide it’s time to tackle the brigands problem together with the folks of Sund. You start securing Sund’s perimeter and surprise the enemy scouts that were approaching the village, running them down as soon as you spot them..
Creed is leading the way, he knows the woods around Sund better than everyone else. You are able to follow closely, only thanks to your extensive training and experience as a soldier and spy in the past. But the other two men from the village are quickly left behind, despite them being younger and fitter.
The brigand in front is running fast, but he too is no match for Creed, who is gaining distance by the minute. You are still carrying a bow, but the trees are in the way of a clear shot. You’ll have to catch up and help up close.
As you think that, Creed has managed to get to the brigand, who turns to throw a stone right to his face. Creed doesn’t react fast enough, and the rock hit his temple. Blood starts spilling out, but it’s just a cut. Creed is still running, and this was just a minor setback. Soon he is up close with the brigand again, and manages to grab him.
The two roll and tumble down the slope, ending with Creed hitting his back on a tree. The impact takes his breath away, as you jump and slide down to help. But you are too slow: the brigand has a knife in his hand, and he slices at Creed’s throat just as he’s getting back up. You see more blood spill out, and the brigand is off running again.
Creed collapses to the ground, holding his neck with both hands.
What will you do?
Stop to rescue Creed. You don’t know how far the others are, and the bleeding must be stopped as soon as possible.
Continue following the brigand. If you stop now, you’ll probably never catch up with the brigand again.
